HADAF Official Statement on International Day of Peace: Core Pillars for Conflict Resolution in Sanaag
BADHAN, SANAAG — September 21, 2026
On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, HADAF Foundation for Relief and Development issues an urgent call to all community leaders, elders, scholars, and youth to accelerate comprehensive reconciliation efforts and secure a lasting peace in the Sanaag region.
We firmly believe that immediate humanitarian assistance and long-term sustainable development can never truly thrive without the bedrock of social cohesion and stability.
Core Pillars and Objectives of This Call:
- Immediate and Comprehensive Cessation of All Hostilities: We demand that all conflicting parties respond immediately to local mediation efforts, implement an instant ceasefire, and prioritize the supreme interest of the community over all other considerations.
- Activating Dialogue and Reconciliation: We call upon tribal elders, religious scholars, intellectuals, youth, and women across the Sanaag region to lead an extensive community-wide campaign to promote a culture of peace, harmony, and constructive communication.
- Resolving Land and Pasture Disputes: We urge all parties to resort to Sharia principles and just traditional customary laws (Xeer) to resolve disputes related to land ownership and pastoral resources, ensuring the rights of all while preventing recurrent crises.
- Focusing on Shared Societal Challenges: The Sanaag region faces immense developmental, environmental, and economic challenges driven by climate shocks. It is vital that we unite our collective efforts to combat poverty, improve education and healthcare, and rebuild basic infrastructure instead of draining our resources and human capacity in internal conflicts.
