BADHAN, SANAAG REGION — The HADAF Foundation, through its affiliate HADAF Center, has successfully concluded a specialized capacity-building workshop targeting approximately 30 school teachers in the city of Badhan, Sanaag Region, Somalia. The intensive training program focused on “Positive and Protective Classroom Management: Practical Skills for Supporting, Motivating, and Protecting Every Child.”
This initiative aligns with HADAF’s strategic educational framework, which dedicatedly supports local educational ecosystems by equipping frontline educators with advanced pedagogical methodologies, child protection principles, and inclusive teaching practices. Implemented in close coordination with local school principals, the workshop serves as a key pillar in aligning community-led educational management with international best practices.
A Milestone in HADAF’s Back-to-School Readiness Strategy
This workshop marks the second consecutive intervention of its kind within HADAF’s strategic plan for the region. It follows a highly successful foundational training session conducted last month, which benefited 50 participants, including Quranic and elementary school teachers alongside recent graduates from faculties of education.
Launched strategically at the onset of the new academic year, these sequential programs aim to fortify teachers’ competencies from day one, ensuring schools are fully prepared to deliver high-quality, resilient, and protective education.
Key Agenda and Highlights of the Workshop:
Day 1: Classroom Management and Student Support (Maalinta 1aad)
    • Classroom Management Techniques: Equipping educators with foundational skills to efficiently organize classrooms and maximize learning time.
    • Understanding Students’ Needs: Enhancing capacities to identify and address the diverse learning, emotional, and physical needs of every child.
    • Student Motivation: Exploring modern pedagogical approaches to foster intrinsic motivation and lifelong learning.
    • Students’ Moral Support: Cultivating continuous moral development, self-discipline, mutual respect, and accountability among learners.
    • Positive Teacher–Student Relationships: Building strong, empathetic, and professional bonds that promote a safe and inspiring educational atmosphere.
    • Managing Difficult Behaviours: Utilizing positive, non-confrontational intervention strategies to constructively navigate behavioral challenges.

Day 2: Protection, Positive Discipline, and Psychosocial Support (Maalinta 2aad)
  • Positive Discipline & Avoiding Corporal Punishment: Establishing rights-based discipline frameworks that completely eliminate corporal punishment while maintaining classroom order.
  • Student Protection & Safeguarding: Operationalizing child safeguarding protocols to protect children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Psychological & Emotional Support: Training educators to offer baseline psychosocial and emotional support to foster student well-being.
  • Bullying Prevention: Implementing proactive counter-bullying strategies to eliminate harassment and create an inclusive school environment.
  • Recognizing Students at Risk: Developing early-identification skills to spot vulnerable children in need of specialized assistance or referral.
  • Practical Classroom Scenarios: Analyzing real-life case studies and daily classroom challenges through interactive peer-to-peer problem-solving.
  • Teacher as a Role Model: Emphasizing the teacher’s critical societal role as an ethical exemplar and mentor.
  • Daily Teacher Action Plan: Crafting tailored, realistic action plans to seamlessly integrate workshop insights into daily lesson delivery.
